Peer support educators needed!

Harrow CCG and local GPs are looking for volunteers to help deliver diabetes education to people in Harrow diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.
Harrow has one of the highest rates of type 2 diabetes in England with over 14,000 people affected. See their web site for full details - 3 days training will be provided on 18-20 November 2015. Experience of working with the public is desirable. Applications close on 9 October.
Once trained as a patient educator you will support health care professionals to deliver the X-PERT Diabetes programme to groups of people living with the condition. The course you will help to deliver will run for six consecutive weeks – one afternoon each week. A brief summary of the training can be found below:
Week1: What is diabetes, digestion and blood glucose control Week 2: Weight management (healthy eating and physical activity) Week 3: Carbohydrate awareness
Week 4: Reading and understanding food labels
Week 5: Possible complications
Week 6: Re‐capping and self‐management for the future
